Besides fuelling road rage, what purpose do car horns serve?

Preventing accidents.

Besides fuelling road rage, what purpose do car horns serve?
the horn is a warning device only and is not to be used for any other purpose as it is illegal to do so
Reply:GET OUT OF THE ROAD DOG BEFORE YOU GET HIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:to alert someone of something example..... if you are located on the black spot of the driver on the other lane and he begins changing lanes.... you horn then he knows you are there and he can return to his lane
Reply:To make drivers aware of your presence if you%26#039;re in their blind spots or if it looks like they%26#039;re about to do something really stupid because they don%26#039;t think to look your way and don%26#039;t know that you were there first (speaking from experience...). Honking the horn is also helpful if you lose control of your car (on icy roads, for example), and need to make sure other drivers know that you%26#039;re in trouble and to expect the unexpected.
Reply:to get attention.
Reply:If you think horns are only good for fueling road rage, get under the hood and disconnect yours. Problem solved.
Reply:Its mainly to give other drivers around you a heads up that you are there. It is also for saying hi to other people but it must be used with caustion since people around you could think you are honking at them and will get angry.
Reply:To catch the attention of hot chicks.

and to alert waiting passengers.
