Thanks to all responses about bucks not losing their horns!!?

I understand all about the velvet horns as they are growing. The thing about these bucks.......we have them on film now back to January this year. Same bucks, same horns. Anymore suggestions?

Thanks to all responses about bucks not losing their horns!!?
I don%26#039;t know why it is, but I have seen them too. These pictures were taken where I live (Mississippi Delta) within the last couple of weeks, since the Mississippi River has been up. http://i290.****************/albums/ll27...

The woods inside the levees are flooded, and deer are everywhere. Some of these bucks still have their antlers. Maybe it%26#039;s hormones. I saw a scrape a couple of weeks ago that had been used fairly recently.
Reply:They do lose their antlers each early spring but they come back bigger and better by fall.

They drop off but it is usually not likely to find shed antlers unless you go out early and frequently since squirrels, mice and other scavengers eat them or drag them away. They contain salt, calcium and other chemicals all animals need and want.
Reply:I answered your other question.

You may get better results if you ask this in the Biology section.

If you do please post a link here. I am curious to know also.

All of the ones I have seen around my home here in the south have lost theirs in February. Wild and domesticated.
Reply:Yeah, wait till after working hours. All you are getting is snotty children right now.

**%26#039;cept for beeds and southern of course!
