Do people realize that car horns are not there for the heck of it?

what is up with people and their use of their car horns - if you need to get someone%26#039;s attention a little tap will do, you dont need to lay on the horn for someone who didnt start going immediately when the light turned green - you dont need to use your horn when traffic is stopped because of construction -your horn is not going to make the construction disappear.

Do people realize that car horns are not there for the heck of it?
I agree! Especially in New York where you cannot go a minute without hearing several car horns and no one there knows how to drive! People who hold onto the horn are just being jerks who need to get anger management. And don%26#039;t even get me started on those crazy cab drivers! They%26#039;re everywhere! The charter bus i was riding on in New York hit a taxi because the taxi suddenly swerved into our lane. So many New York crazy driver stories...so little time.
Reply:Have you tried living in Miami Beach?... the mentally retards that drive around town think that the horn is a sexual organ that must be touched and pressed every other minute...

Don%26#039;t even mention, fire trucks and ambulances, we are all deaf down here in the beach
Reply:Those people I call Road Morons. They are the same ones who pass on the shoulder, speed, pass you when your doing 5 mph over the limit, run up your rear, cut through parking lots to avoid lights, park in fire zones, think STOP means cut right out, and the little lever on the steering column when pressed up or down will automatically clears the lane next to you.
Reply:I agree. I seldom use my horn. In fact sometimes I do a check in my driveway to make sure it%26#039;s still working.
Reply:Too funny! This has been going on for ever since the horn was put in cars. People that do that are not going to change. Sorry to say there are a lot of people behind the wheel that should not be there. Many need anger management. lol So on that note some of us patient and some are well just jerks. I don%26#039;t think there is any way to stop there immaturity. So I guess the rest of us will have to deal with it.
Reply:ROFLOL I just got back from NYC on Wednesday, and I was telling my mom that must be how New Yorkers communicate with each other through their horns....one beep must mean something, two beeps another....etc. =)
Reply:Oh, how many times I%26#039;ve thought this to myself!!!

I got a laugh one day when the guy behind me was honking, at a construction site, and the driver of the front end loader (the reason traffic was stopped) got off his loader, walked over, and asked the guy, %26quot;Do you REALLY want to piss off a man who is carrying 5 TONS of dirt past your car???%26quot;

I thought I was gonna pee myself!
Reply:ok a horn is there to alert other drivers of things those drivers are NOT AWARE OF themselves. a lot of people always seem to be in a hurry and do not find out why exactly the person in front of them suddenly stopped (or doesn%26#039;t peel off like they%26#039;re in a drag race like the idiot behind them). You could be behind a truck at a stop light, the light turns green and there%26#039;s this old lady (that you cannot see) walking as fast as she can to get across the street and rather than sit and wait, the idiot gets pissed and starts beeping his horn at the truck because he doesn%26#039;t see the lady. if someone beeps at you, be callous, especially if you carry a pistol (licensed) in your car like i do.

I agree with the questioner totally.
Reply:I would have to agree with you about people laying on the horn for a long period in trivial situations. It%26#039;s pointless. But, having recently almost been run off the road by a reckless Audi driver, I%26#039;d have to say that those long honks are absolutely necessary sometimes. I let that idiot know he almost killed me by cutting into a space that was not large enough to let him safely move over.

P.S. I think it%26#039;s interesting you bring up the honking at construction sites comment. Many movies depict a bunch of cars honking at consrtuction zones like it%26#039;ll help, but it obviously never does. It%26#039;s just interesting that%26#039;s it%26#039;s always in movies and never in real life (that I%26#039;ve ever been aware of).
Reply:In California, it is illegal and you

can be ticketed, for blowing your horn,

except to signify, impending danger.
Reply:it%26#039;s funny though when everyones honking the horns at eachother.
