Horns in cattle are due to certain genes. All native breeds of cattle have long horns. Short horns cattle were obtain by selection and improvement of native breeds because horns are not important in milk or meat production. In hot areas cattle are owned by native owners who actually do not care for cattle production but they care about the number they own.

Why cattle in hot areas have bigger horns?
is it something to do with larger predators
Reply:The origins of Ankole and Watusi cattle are probably lost in the mists of time. The cattle are considered a status symbol In some African tribes. The long horns could be a result of selective breeding; a sort of cow horn one-up-man-ship?
