Why do domestic car horns honk while foreign car horns beep?

By domestic, I mean USA. By foreign, I mean non-USA.

Toyota, Volkswagen, Nissan, Lexus, Hyundai, Kia, and more... these car horns sound a %26quot;beep.%26quot; Chevrolet, Ford, Buick, Cadillac, Dodge, etc... these car horns sound a %26quot;honk.%26quot; Why is that?

Why do domestic car horns honk while foreign car horns beep?
Because we have the beef!! We want loud, noticeable sounds. It is a horn after all and we have loud music, among other things, here. In Asia and Europe, they are more put together and do not go to the extremes we do, hence the lesser sound required to come out of the car to get someone%26#039;s attention. We are just much louder!! Needless to say, I have a big Ford truck and love everything about it, including it%26#039;s loud horn.
