French horns?

ANY FELLOW FRENCH HORNS OUT THERE! people think my playing the french horn is weird, i am the only girl brass player in my class. ANY OTHER GIRL FRENCH HORNERS?

Don't listen to them! Female French horn players are the best!





It takes guts to play a male-dominated instrument, instead of say, a flute or clarinet, where most of the girls are. But French horn is a beautiful instrument! You get to play all the romantic parts, the heroic melodies and the exciting villianous roles like the wolf in Peter and the Wolf.





I played French horn all through middle school, high school and college and there's no way I would have gone back an chosen another instrument. If you stick with it, I'm sure you'll end up with some other female brass players... in fact, most of the French horn players at my college were girls.





But - who cares what other people think anyway? You've chosen a GREAT instrument, a very challenging one that takes a lot of talent and practice... dedicate yourself to it and you'll knock their socks off! Good luck!
Reply:When I was in High School (years ago) I was seriously studying Piano but my girl friend at that time was in marching band and they needed a French horn player so the director talked me into learning how to play it.





I actually learned it quickly but I didn't enjoy it so gave it up after the semester. Shortly afterwards, I discovered the guitar and realized I could pick up more chics with a guitar than I could with a Piano OR a French Horn... so that was the end of brass instruments for me.
