Is it cruel to remove a kid goat's horns ? Help??

We have a 16 week old female kid goat, as cute as can be %26amp; very tame. Unfortunately the breeder did not get the horn buds burnt off when she was born so we have now got 2 quite sharp weapons in the garden. . . . not so good with children about! Is it possible to have the horns removed at this stage, I know there is no nerves in them but ouch!!! Any sensible advice would be most apreciated.

Is it cruel to remove a kid goat's horns ? Help??
For goodness sake don't just saw them off. There is a nerve that runs so far up the horn and this needs to be anaesthetised before removing the horn, otherwise it would be like a dentist trying to pull one of your teeth without numbing the area first. The injection goes in the vein, in the dent that runs above the eye to the base of the horn. You are best off asking a vet to do it cos if all the horn isn't removed it will just grow back. While you decide you can push some hosepipe on to the horn or as someone also suggested glue tennis balls or similar onto them.
Reply:Ask the farmer....?
Reply:yeah it wants disbudding so i would get the vet to do this for you.

never attempt this if you dont know what you are doing as you can cause more harm than good.
Reply:sorry but don't know.. goodluck
Reply:You need to contact a large-animal veterinarian, or at least one with experience in this. If you are near a zoo or petting zoo, they can help you with referrals. A riding stable could also be a good source as they need vets to treat their animals.

By this time, the horns have fused and are growing from the skull, so in a graphic sense, if you were to saw off the horns, you would be left with two very large gaping holes in your pet's skull, plus leave her with a possible infection - not to forget that it will probably freak out your kids.

She's still young enough that she should recover from the surgery well, plus being under a vet's care will assure your children that their pet will be fine even when she looks less spiky.
Reply:Wow wee, I,d hate that thing getting me if I was bent over.
Reply:Get a couple of old tennis balls, drill holes into their centre, coat the goat horns with glue and then stick the horns into the balls.

No seriously, go see a vet.
Reply:i would say that it is the best thing to do especially if theres children around, you dont want them to get hurt and then you get in trouble for not having the horns removed, however i only think this IF it does not hurt them, it is only cruel if it hurts :) hope this helps you xx
Reply:file them down.dont cut them or ask a vet.
Reply:just saw them off they will bleed a few drops but not too much..

then spray it with antiseptic...

they don't really act like it hurts....but they do tend to try to pull away after a couple of minuets..

we had a feed trough they would put their heads in then we could slide a board in to hold them while we bobbed the horns..

a hack saw works just fine
Reply:Yes you can, you can use this stuff that burns them off. It does hurt them to get it done despite no nerves in the horns themselves. If your not planning on showing them, there really is no reason to remove them.
Reply:Go to a vet - they are not living tissue (as you know) but that doesn't mean that just hacking at them won't hurt the animal!
Reply:most people just file them down until they are blunt. if you want them taking off though you should go and get some advice from your local vet or farmer. good luck with her!
Reply:um i think that it should eather go to a farm if it is mean or just be carful with the horns treat it nice and then you should have no problems!

P.s UMMM its a goat it will have horns removeing them whould be like takeing off all of your finger nails and not letting them grow back.
Reply:saw them off
Reply:Removing a goats horns takes a professional. The horns if removed incorrectly could kill the goat. Burning them off when the goat is very young is recommended and no it's not cruel. You can have a vet that is experienced in removing the horns take them off. You have a couple of options depending on how big the horns are. Please don't try to do this yourself and don't have anybody, even a vet removed the horns if they have never removed horns before. Improper removal can be a disaster. But have faith, it can be done. It should relatively inexpensive and easy for a seasoned professional.
