Why do we have horns in our cars!!!!?

Horns don't do anything but get your *** kicked!!! Why do auto makers still put horns in our cars. Seriously I've never used my horn. Even If I did use it they would think I was being a jerk off. What say you people?

Why do we have horns in our cars!!!!?
no, no you have it all wrong, horns aren't meant to be used as an actual device to bring you're presence to other drivers in the sense of telling them they're driving bad. horns are there so we can honk at peeps we know and get their attention, to honk at peeps we find cute that we can holler at, or so we can honk and tell the lazy peeps in our houses to get out here and get these groceries outta the car! :)
Reply:If people are in your way and you want them to move, you honk at them, instead of cursing. It's really that simple.
Reply:What is going honk for those annoying car alarms?
Reply:I've saved myself from getting hit by using my horn for sure... people backing out without looking and stop when you honk. I need a louder horn, like an air horn, or a train horn.
Reply:Horns are a pain in the ***. But they alert pedestrians that a reckless bastard is in the area, so they'd better watch out. They also help to relieve a little frustration when you get sideswiped coming off a ramp onto the highway. And occasionally they are used as a flirtation device by men. :) But I hate them too...I hardly ever use mine.
Reply:So that people can get out of the way!
Reply:While it may be true that most people use horns now to express their extreme displeasure in someone else's actions, the purpose of the horn is to alert people of your presence. Using for this purpose saves lives every day. Sometimes we all aren't as alert as we should be behind the wheel, and someone else needs to let us know to look around.
Reply:One examle would be if one is driving in the right lane and someone in the left lane is about to change lanes and you are in their blind spot. A tap on the horn will alert them to avoid an accident more effectively than a middle finger.

Plus they sound real cool in tunnels, especially those two tone cadillac horns.
Reply:What do you do when some doesn't see ya coming?Do you just yell hey get out of the way? I think a car horn is more efficient. But good for you if you don't have to that nothing surprising or unexpected has ever happen that you don't need one.

GL

History of the horn:For the safety of pedestrians and animals, a law was passed stating that "…self-propelled vehicles on public roads must be preceded by a man on foot waving a red flag and blowing a horn.". Of course, it did not take long to realize that a horn in the automobile itself, operated by the driver, was much more efficient.

In the late 1800's motorists actually had their choice of several signaling devices including bulb horns, whistles, and bells. In America, most chose bells.

Background traffic noise has continued to increase and at the same time, auto manufacturers have prided themselves on designing cars to reduce interior noise to near zero. They have been so successful in fact, that even the sirens of emergency vehicles, which are much louder than conventional horns, cannot be heard in an auto with windows rolled up and the air conditioning on. Even with the windows rolled down, at high speeds the background interior noise increases dramatically, detracting the user's ability to hear signaling devices. Pedestrians and residents along city streets however, have no problem hearing automobile horns, and have prompted numerous laws over the years dealing with their use. By 1912, a number of cities had laws on the books requiring motorized vehicles to have audible warning devices, yet at the same time limiting their use within city limits. Throughout the 1950's, 60's, and 70's, several states experimented with legislation attempting to regulate the operation of automobile horns, while still allowing their legitimate use. As a result, there are still many local and regional laws in effect today.

With the introduction of the electronic COGApa, car horns have finally reached the next generation and have entered the digital age.

COGApa is a novelty device and is not intended, nor should it be used, as a replacement for your standard automobile horn or as a signaling device. COGApa is not intended for operation in a moving vehicle. Check your local ordinances governing use of this product. Please use COGApa in a respectable and responsible manner at all times. And have fun!
Reply:The same reason bulls have horns, it's like saying look at me look at me!
Reply:A horn is used to get someone's attention. Unfortunately, some people need a lot of attention.
Reply:It a (WARNING DEVICE) when someone (BLONDE) in the lane next to you is not watching what they are doing or do not see you, Honk!

I have never had anyone attempt to fight with me for honking, and I live in the biggest RED NECK Town in the World!

You Honk at sexy women, honk at your neighbors wife in the road, could have been a cow....Woops. Sometimes you can't tell.

It's a blast to honk at people, just for fun, and wave, they wounder if they know you or where we met.

Just plain fun. If you get mad, you have road rage. Take some pills.

Don't mess with guys who could jump out of the car with an assault rifel and put you in your place real quick.

It's happens here all the time. So that's why we honk and wave, sometimes it's only with one finger, but we still like to wave.

Good Luck with anger management class.
Reply:To get dumb ***** off the road that don't know crap about driving.
Reply:You horn is to use on the other jerks out there that don't know how to drive.
Reply:I couldn't resist mentioning that Hall_Of_Heads is the only one that got the answer right.

I wish I had a heat seeking missile I could use on horn blowers.
Reply:to be annoying
Reply:To warn other poeople if they are getting in your way. cutting you off, or about to ram into u... jeez.. dont drive much do u?
Reply:to warn people...i have avoided getting hit by someone who did not see my while trying to change lanes (he did not use his blinker either) and i honked at him...he swerved back over and avoided a collision...you are lucky that you have never needed to use it...but in the land of older folks it comes in handy...
Reply:To enforce road rage
Reply:its an early invention that being passed on through ages of automobile makers,, just because back in those days there was not to many street lights ..so probably it was being used as an alert of.. passerby's or for some reasons
Reply:well if someone was in the road and i was about to run them over id prefer being able to warn them about the imminent danger.
Reply:so we can drive people up the wall with it
Reply:To honk at people who ask stupid questions!
Reply:In the old times when traveling in a couch, the driver or postman blew his horn to tell the people he is driving by, so you had time to put the thing together for the postman.

Now is't to get attention from people who don't watch out when driving or walking the streets
Reply:so u can tell people to get the **** out of your way! obviously
